Dr. Mitchell is the former Director of Eye Disease at UC Berkeley and the former Director of Eye Care for Kaiser-Permanente in San Francisco. We provide state-of-the-art eye care in both our Reno and Portola offices. Dr. Mitchell has been in practice for 27 years and has a wide range of experience.

We offer complete eyecare services, comprehensive eye examinations, consultation on refractive surgery as well as care for eye diseases like cataract and macular degeneration.

We have a modern selection of eyeglass frames in our dispensary with frames that range from selections from the top designers today to stylish frames to meet your budget. We match our frames with advanced eyeglass lens designs to give you the best, most comfortable glasses that we can. Dr. Mitchell is an experienced contact lens doctor and participates in a number of contact lens research studies. We are providers for major vision insurance companies like Vision Service Plan (VSP) and EyeMed. We are also providers for medical insurance to cover medically-related eye care like Medicare, St. Mary's, Blue Cross, and Blue Shield.

Dr. Mitchell has a special interest in contact lens fitting in patients having trouble after LASIK, PRK, cataract and other eye surgeries and in patients with corneal distortion or irregular astigmatism in conditions like keratoconus. He has presented research papers on this subject, and consults with doctors from around the world in this area. Spring is here!

Now that Spring is here, we're seeing our Snowbird patients starting to come back to the office. This got us to thinking around the office...now's the time to come in and have your routine exam, order contacts or glasses, or schedule surgery. While moving back is an exciting time, and maybe you don't want to worry about health care right now, now is really the time to get things going.

If you have your routine and non routine care earlier in the Spring rather than waiting, we have more time to complete your treatments. We want to avoid setting someone up for surgery or starting the contact lens fitting process in the Fall when you're planning to go back to your Winter home in several weeks. In this way, we can be sure to have everything relating to your eye care done before you need to leave our wonderful area.
